Elder statesman, Tanko Yakassai, has claimed that the recent EndSARS protest in some parts of the country was sponsored by politicians.

According to him, the youths were incited to do what they did. He said the youths should be told that they can agitate but not to revolt.

He insisted that the protest had leaders who were inciting them to rise against the country.

He said:

"They had leaders. In any case, what was the complaint of the youths? They started with #EndSARS and police brutality. Immediately they started the protest, marching on the streets, Buhari said he has dissolved that arm of the police, which means the demands of the protesters had been achieved and he brought in a new one, SWAT. There must be police in Nigeria as they have all over the world."

Going further, he added that despite the fact that the government granted their wish immediately, the people using the youths continued to incite them.

Meanwhile, in their reactions, many Nigerians have faulted Yakasai over his comments.

According to Chukwuemeka Victor Ugo, the elder statesman must have incited people before for him to know how incited people behave.

Oladipupo Emmanuel Akinola said:

"Another one of them in the north, their thinking is usually upsidedown. Because youths don't make money in the north. They push wheelbarrow and beg (almajiri) so SARS were not so much after them.
"But because some (please note, not all) youths in the South usually gets wealthy by dint of hard work (yes, there are some yahoo boys who are bad and needs to be tamed, but not by extrajudicial killings), the police are always after them and wanting to extort money from them and brutalizes those who did not part with money because such person knows he is not a yahoo guy.

"They only called themselves elders, but they lack the experience as they are used to seeing their youths begging.
"Meanwhile, some of their youths also get into crimes like banditry, Boko haram, kidnapping, and armed robbery. Hypocrites!"

Isaac Ejiofor added that:

"There is nothing like that oga. Does it mean that youths cannot demand their rights with out politicians sponsoring them? Everything in Nigeria is usually attached to politics."
