Though the visit coincided with the 63rd birthday of Jonathan, there are speculations that it had to do with the political permutations ahead of the 2023 presidential election, Nigerian Tribune reported.

Reacting on Sunday, November 22, the PDP claimed that the visit amounted to an apology by the APC to the opposition party for allegedly peddling lies in its desperate move to grab power in 2015.

A statement by the PDP spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the visit affirms the success of the PDP while in government in the country for 16 years.

Jonathan governed Nigeria on the platform of the PDP between 2009 and 2015.
