The Edo police command on Friday, November 13, has confirmed that yet to be identified gunmen shot a senior police officer in the line of duty.
The command’s spokesman, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Benin, disclosed that the officer is an Area Commander.
Nwabuzor, who did not give the name of the officer, said that the gunmen shot the officer while responding to a distress call.
He, however, disclosed that the wounded officer was receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility in Benin.
Reliable sources told NAN that the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday at the popular Murtala Muhammed Way, by Third East Circular road junction in Benin.
In another development, two persons, including a motorcyclist, were feared killed after gunmen attacked a bullion van in Lagos on Thursday, November 12.
Legit.ng reports that the incident occurred along Addo road Ajah in Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Femi Adesina, a senior media and publicity aide to President Muhammadu Buhari has commended his principal's fatherly role in handling the EndSARS protest, saying thing would have degenerated into anarchy had he (Buhari) not exercised restraint and tolerance.
Speaking through his Thursday, November 12 article titled “We Have Not Many Fathers", Adesina attributed the relative calm being enjoyed after the protest to Buhari's patience.
The presidential aide noted that the country has “many tutors, many instructors, but not many fathers" and added that Buhari is one of the country's fathers.
Adesina said when the EndSARS protest was "prolonged and eventually hijacked and misdirected", the president was not angered but rather gave the security operatives the directives to deal with the issue with a prudent force.
