Lekki shooting: There were a number of casualties, Gbajabiamila contradicts Sanwo-Olu

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has said there were casualties following the shooting of #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate complex on Tuesday., October 21.

Gbajabiamila made this disclosure in a series of tweets on Wednesday, October 21, adding that the sad events left his heart heavy and spirit disturbed.

Recall that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos in a state-wide broadcast stated that contrary to the widespread reports, no casualties were recorded.

However, the Lagos state governor later on Wednesday announced that one person died after the shooting incident at the Lekki toll gate.

The House of Reps speaker went on to note that it was painfully clear that the gunfire left casualties.

He added that there needs to be a thorough investigation to determine the facts of what happened on the night in question.

He tweeted:

"It is unavoidably and painfully clear that there were a number of casualties as a result of gunfire at the Lekki Toll Gate."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu vowed to report the Nigeria Army operatives who shot at the peaceful protesters at Lekki toll gate to the military "high command."

Speaking during a statewide broadcast closely monitored by Legit.ng, Sanwo-Olu sued for understanding and peace.

The governor also stated that he would report the security operatives who carried out the attack on unarmed protesters to President Muhammadu Buhari, being the commander-in-chief.

In a related development, Sanwo-Olu in order to contain the widespread violence trailing the EndSARS protest in Lagos extended the curfew by 72 hours. The governor made this announcement in a live broadcast.
