Meanwhile, Nigerians on social media have countered the Army, insisting that the soldiers who shot innocent protesters are indeed men of the force.

Here are reactions from Nigerians on social media:

Uzezi Ben:

"Where is your professionalism? You are supposed to be defending the country, you can’t defend the nation without support of the citizens you are killing.

"No water canons, no tear gas, no barricade but live bullet? If it fail and the citizens get used to the killings by security forces do you know that you will no longer have a country? Tell me why a protester will run when he has accepted that killing by security forces is normal? Tell me why he should be afraid to not carry weapons when next? You should have consulted properly first."

Jerry Efobi:

"You have murdered sleep. It's either we fix Nigeria or you kill every young citizen. What is worth living for is worth dying for. And by heavens, what is worth dying for is also worth killing for."
"There is no going back. You can not threaten with death, people who have never had the chance to live. I am Jerry Efobi. Farmers Support Initiative Youths Ambassador. And I support #EndPoliceBrutality #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria."
"Shame on the present leadership of our Army. Shame on you. But there will be no hiding place for individual soldiers (and their families) who agree to be used to execute the worst evil known in history of humanity (A Government killing her own Youthful population). Even after this protest all such soldiers will be judged in a people's tribunal and executed publicly.
