Several inmates have been freed as some suspected hoodlums broke into the Benin Prison popularly called White House during the ongoing EndSARS protest.
According to the news report, armed squad of prison officials engaged the suspected hoodlums in gunfire.
This was reported to have resulted in some persons sustaining injuries.
Meanwhile, Nigerians have come on social media to react to the latest development. Legit.ng has gathered some of the reactions.
According to Gideon Terver Vajime, the government is behind the jailbreak.
"It's actually a ploy by the government or whoever it is on their side to sabotage the work of the innocent youth and distract them from focus so as to make the government send in armed forces who are actually running away from Boko Haram."
Olori Awonuga Titilayo Mary stated:
"The federal government can lie oo. This shows we have more criminal in power than on the street. So shameful that Our leaders would stoop to this level of insanity. Prisoners who escaped don’t have uniforms?
"Prison without warders or guards? No gunshot was heard during the breaking out? No policeman on sight when the so-called prison break happen? C’mon Nigerian government we are not fools. #EndSARS."
Nwachukwu Okonta said:
"It is unfortunate that, thugs have hijacked these peaceful protest to cause violence and criminal activities, in order justify military involvement."
Uduma Emeka claimed that:
"The prison break was championed by the govt, you can't carry out a prison break without an insider."
Inegbedion Kelvin Gideon said:
"Just imagine a police station was attacked and no one was killed or shot at? It was an inside job done to tarnish the protest. One of them even said it was the prison warden that opened the gates to let them out telling them to run so that it will seem like the youths did it.
"Who would chose to remain in prison if given such an opportunity? so they ran to freedom and now they want to turn it against the youths. Imagine an attack like that and there was no officer on ground to even stop anyone."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the presidency reacted to claims that President Muhammadu Buhari is indifferent to the calls by Nigerians against police brutality through the EndSARS protest.
A special assistant on media and publicity to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande, said that the nation's number one citizen has already given a live broadcast of the issue and that he meant every word he said.
