Amaechi Is Not Interested In Presidency

Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi says he is not planning to contest the 2015 presidency.

Speaking during an interactive session with reporters in Port Harcourt on Monday, the Nigerian Governors’ Forum Chairman said he was only interested in the development of the state.

On his posters and those of his Jigawa State counterpart pasted in parts of the North, Amaechi said he had nothing to do with them.

He said, “I have no ambition for 2015.The future of Rivers people does not depend on 2015. I have never attended any meeting anywhere about 2015.

“It is absolutely a non-issue. In the North, there are pictures of Sule Lamido and I, but I don’t have anything to do with 2015.”

On the boundary dispute between Rivers and neighbouring Bayelsa, the governor said there was the suspicion that the battle for Rivers State oil wells was aimed at “emasculating the people of the state”.

He alleged that there were also moves to give 46 oil wells belonging to Rivers to Abia State.

Amaechi said, “This worries me. I join you to ask that question; what is my sin? The court said they made a mistake, but that mistake has not been corrected.

“They gave our oil wells to Bayelsa, now they want to take another 71 oil wells. I leave the people of Rivers State to take their destiny in their own hands. The President is behind us and we must support him on this.”

He directed the chairmen of Eleme, Obio/Akpor and Ikwerre local governments to stop the indiscriminate siting of mechanic workshops and ensure that their areas were kept clean.

He added that he had directed the Ministry of Finance to stop deducting Social Services Contributory levy from workers’ salaries until early next year.
