Duoye Diri, governor of Bayelsa, has reacted to the judgement of the appeal court of Friday, October 2, declaring him as the winner of the state's 2019 governorship election.
Speaking at the state house after his election as governor of Bayelsa state was upheld, Diri said those fighting him are fighting God.
The governor, who was joined by his supporters at his office, emphasised that he is a product of divine grace.
Legit.ng recalls that barely a month after he was sacked by the Bayelsa election tribunal, the court of appeal sitting in Abuja affirmed the governor's victory.
In a majority decision, the court set aside a ruling of the Bayelsa state governorship election petition tribunal which nullified the election of Diri as the validly elected Bayelsa governor.
The court ruled that the petition filed by the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP) was statute-barred, meaning it that the cause of action was no longer legally enforceable when the petition was filed.
In a swift reaction, Governor Diri said his victory showed that God wanted to use him to lead Bayelsa into its greatness.
Diri, who commended the judiciary, also extended olive branches to members of the opposition.
In his words:
“I am just an instrument God is using to usher Bayelsa to the path of prosperity hence, if you are fighting the system, you are fighting God Himself.”
