Former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, should be sent on “political retirement”, former governor Fayose has counselled the state chapter of the party.
According to the former Ekiti state governor, this would help the party to make progress and win elections in Lagos state.
Fayose said this in a statement by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, titled, ‘Lagos PDP must retire Bode George to make progress, urges support for BOG to win senatorial bye-election – Fayose’.
The former governor was quoted to have said this while speaking during the inauguration of the PDP campaign committee for the Lagos-East senatorial by-election on Tuesday, September 29.
He insisted that George should be “a support stand for the younger ones in the party instead of dragging positions with them.”
Going further, he said Lagos state is ripe for the PDP to take over.
“Lagos is ripe for PDP to take and we will take the state if will work hard and put our house in order. This senate election is for PDP to take if we are ready to take it. You have done it before by producing House of Reps members and you can do it again by producing a senator,” he said."
He noted that “before PDP can win any election in this Lagos, the party must first separate the wheat from chaffs.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Kehinde Odebunmi, factional chairman of the PDP in Ekiti said he would not allow Fayose hijack the party in the state.
He said this while featuring on a local programme, The Conversation, aired on New Cruse 92.7 FM, Ikere-Ekiti.
Legit.ng also reported that the aspirations of the former national vice-chairman (southwest) of the PDP got a major boost on Thursday, September 10, when he and his team were endorsed by the Lagos chapter of the party ahead of the regional congress.
Legit.ng reports that Olafeso, the immediate past regional secretary, Bunmi Jenyo, and other members of the exco were in Lagos to solicit delegate votes for the forthcoming congress.
Fayose who was scheduled to be at the meeting was unavoidably absent but dignitaries from across the region who were in attendance, included Dr Bimbo Ogunkelu, Sunday Adekunle, secretary of the Ogun state chapter of the party, and other chieftains from Osun, Ogun and Ekiti states.
In another development, Fayose warned the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde against tampering with the leadership structure in Ekiti.
It was reported that Fayose said he was ready to fight anyone who wanted to take over the structure of the party in the state from him.
