Cabinet shake-up: Fayemi drops two commissioners, demotes five others

- About seven Ekiti state commissioners have been affected in a major cabinet reshuffle

Five Ekiti state commissioners have been demoted and reassigned new portfolios as Special Advisers following a major cabinet reshuffle on Monday, August 31.

Governor Kayode Fayemi who approved the demotion also relieved the commissioner for health, Dr. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade and commissioner of environment, Gbenga Agbeyo of their appointments, The Nation reports.

The demoted state officials include Moji Fafure, ex-commissioner for Women Affairs, (SA Gender Empowerment), Olabode Folorunsho former commissioner for agriculture, (SA Community Development), and Olusoga Davies ex-commissioner for trade and investment (SA Political Matters).

Others are Ayoola Owolabi ex-commissioner for finance, (Investment and Trade) and Folusho Daramola ex-commissioner for education, (SA Governor’s Office).

According to Fayemi, the cabinet shakeup is to create a new energy for continued efficient and effective service delivery.

It was gathered that the governor also appointed eight new members screened by the House of Assembly.

The eight new commissioners are Barr. Akin Omole (Information); Dr Oyebanji Filani (Health); Mr Akin Oyebode (Finance and Economic Development); Prince Olabode Adetoyi (Agriculture and Food Security); Otunba Oladiran Adesua (Housing and Urban Development).

Others include Dr Olabimpe Aderiye (Education,); Alhaja Mariam Ogunlade (Women Affairs and Social Development); and Mrs. Iyabode Fakunle-Okhiemen (Environment and Natural Resources).

Meanwhile, Muyiwa Olumilua, the former commissioner for information, was moved to the ministry of investment, trade and industries while Akintunde Oyebode was upgraded from special adviser on trade and nvestment to commissioner for finance.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the chairman of Ikere local government, Femi Ayodele, has been suspended by the Ekiti state House of Assembly over an alleged unauthorised presidential campaign poster for Governor Kayode Fayemi.

Ayodele had sponsored campaign posters canvassing for Governor Fayemi to contest as a presidential candidate under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2023.

The posters, which have become subject of political debates and innuendos on different platforms, showed Governor Fayemi clad in an adorable sky blue Agbada with a blue striped Awolowo cap.

The council chairman was suspended unanimously by the lawmakers at the Assembly’s plenary presided over by the speaker, Funminiyi Afuye, on Friday, August 21.

The decision followed a motion moved by the majority leader of the House, Gboyega Aribisogan and seconded by Tajudeen Akingbolu representing Ekiti West constituency 1.

In other news, Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde sacked the state commissioner of works, infrastructure and transport, Raphael Afonja.

This was disclosed by Taiwo Adisa, the chief press secretary to the governor. Afonja's appointment was terminated in a letter dated Monday, August 10, and signed by the secretary to the state government (SSG) Olubamiwo Adeosun.

Though the reason for the commissioner’s sack was not officially stated by the Oyo state governor, he, however, thanked Afonja for his contribution.
