Edo election: Obaseki, Ize-Iyamu speak about relationship with Oshiomhole

Ahead of the Edo guber election, Governor Godwin Obaseki and his rival Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu have finally lifted the lids on their relationship with the former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole.
Speaking exclusively with BBC Pidgin, Obaseki who, is seeking reelection on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Pary (PDP), denied Oshiomhole as his godfather, adding that he helped the former ruling party chairman to become Edo governor.
It would be recalled that Governor Obaseki dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) after being screened out over alleged defective certificate.
His defection to Peoples Democratic Party peaked the political feud between him and his predecessor Oshiomhole who is now backing Ize-Iyamu for the Edo seat.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled September 19 for the governorship election in the southsouth state.
Obaseki said the relationship between him was symbiotic because the former APC chairman and labour leader helped him to become governor the same way he helped him to raise funds for his election too.
" I don't see him as a godfather. He helped me just the way I helped him also. Even before he became governor, I was the one who helped him to gather people, raised money and got him into office as governor.
"The relationship between us is not of godfather or godson relationship," Obaseki said.
Meanwhile, Osagie Ize-Iyamu also has stated that the relationship between him and Oshiomhole is just friendship, adding that only God can be his godfather.
The APC flagbearer also said he supported Oshiomhole to become governor of Edo state.
"How can Oshiomhole be my godfather? If you ask him that question he will tell you that 'how can I be pastor's godfather?
"When Oshiomhole wanted to contest for the governorship election, he heard that I wanted to contest too and he came to meet me and beg and I agree. Because I told him that where he came from (Edo North), nobody has been governor. I supported him that time," Ize-Iyamu said.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the household of Governor Godwin Obaeseki of Edo state has openly denied endorsing Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu in the forthcoming election.
Addressing pressman on Wednesday, August 5, spokesperson of the Edo state governor's household Oyuki Gaius-Obaseki Jr said the family will not armfold itself while some dissents are attempting to bring crack into their midst.
Gaius-Obaseki further added that the family has agreed to sanction the marauders who made the false declaration, adding that those who endorsed their son's opponent are shameful.
