Following his failure to clinch the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket, Ondo state deputy governor, Alfred Agboola Ajayi, has finally dumped the party.

Ajayi resigned from PDP less than fifty days after leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) in what climaxed the political feud between him and his principal Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

According to emerging reports from Ondo, Ajayi will contest the state guber election on the platform of the Zenith Labour Party(ZLP).

The embattled deputy governor has been reportedly cleared by the national executive committee of the ZLP to contest the election.

Speaking through his media aide Allen Sowore, Ajayi assured his followers of victory and urged them to stay focused and committed.

It would be recalled that Ajayi's bid to contest the Ondo governorship election on the platform of PDP hit a setback after losing the primary election to Eyitayo Jegede (SAN).

Jegede defeated all the seven other aspirants, with the senior lawyer and former commissioner of justice polling 888 votes to dislodge Ajayi who polled 657 votes.

Ajayi, while accepting the defeat, had admitted to putting a good fight in the shadow poll. He stated that he "had a lot of forces" who stood against him.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the drama of intrigues in the Ondo guber race has taken another dimension as PDP may find it difficult to give the APC a tough battle come October with an unsettled house.

The emergence of Jegede as the Ondo PDP candidate, according to report, has created a fracture in the party as five governors have thrown their weight behind the embattled Ondo deputy governor.

The political ploy that saw Ajayi axed out of the guber race was said to have angered five PDP governors who are now massively throwing weight behind the deputy governor to contest on the platform of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
