Nigerian governor appoints special assistant on unmarried women affairs

Balaraba Ibrahim has been appointed as the special assistant on women affairs (unmarried) to Bauchi state governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.

The appointment was disclosed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mohammed Sabi’u Baba, in a letter dated Tuesday, August 4.

According to the letter, Ibrahim's appointment takes effect immediately.

The letter reads in part: “I am pleased to convey the approval of His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed CON, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, for your appointment as Special Assistant Woman Affairs (Unmarried). The appointment is based on your knowledge, experience and personal qualities of handwork, honesty and absolute loyalty.@

The governor tasked Ibrahim to utilize all her qualities in facing the challenges of the office to facilitate the attainment of the government’s collective goal and the expectation of the electorates.

Nigerian governors are no strangers when it comes to making unusual appointments or the number of aides.

Back in December 2017, the then governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha, appointed his biological sister, Ogechi Ololo, as commissioner for happiness and couples’ fulfillment.

Ololo was among 27 commissioners and 27 transition committee chairmen for the 27 local government councils in the state sworn in by the governor on Monday, December 4, 2017.

Before her new appointment, she served as the governor’s deputy chief of staff and special adviser on domestic matters.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Cross River state governor, Ben Ayade on Thursday, June 18, approved the appointment of 190 aides including a special assistant on hospitality.

The appointment was disclosed by Christian Ita, the governor’s special adviser on media and publicity. With this, the total number of the governor's aides is now over 600.

According to him, the appointees include members of boards of agencies, personal assistants, and special assistants on refugees and hospitality. Ita went on to note that the governor made the appointments based on the administration’s policy of ‘putting food on the table’.

In a related development, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed former lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin as the new Executive Director of Federal Housing Authority (Business Development in charge of Commercial, Corporate and Social Housing).
