Fayemi enters list of Nigerian governors who have contracted COVID-19

Time and again, the fact is laid bare that the global pandemic, COVID-19, is not a respecter of social, financial or even religious status, especially with the recent report that Governor Kayode Fayemi has contracted the virus.

On his Twitter page on Wednesday, July 22, Governor Fayemi announced that he has tested positive for the disease and has, therefore, temporarily handed over the state's mantle of leadership to his deputy, Adebisi Egbeyemi.

But the Ekiti leader is not the only governor in the list of Nigerian politicians who have been infected with the coronavirus.

A full list of Nigerian governors who have had to battle with the disease is given below:

1. Governor Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti)

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported months back that Ekiti state had been plunged into anxiety after Fayemi confirmed he had taken coronavirus test after meeting with two confirmed cases.

Fayemi made this known in a tweet on his verified official Twitter handle on Wednesday morning, March, 25, at exactly 10:57 am.

The governor's revelation came in barely twenty-four hours after President Muhammadu Buhari's chief of staff, Abba Kyari, tested positive to the deadly infection.

Fayemi said he had gone on self-isolation since Tuesday evening, March 24, after confirmation that two of the people who he had a meeting with tested positive.

The governor, however, also urged colleagues and people who might have established contact with him to do the Covid-19 test and go on self-isolation to avoid further spread.

"I'm asymptomatic and feel well, but I was in meetings with two people who had since tested positive.

"I look forward to an all clear and have encouraged all my colleagues to take the test," the governor further submitted.
