Agboola Ajayi, deputy governor of Ondo state, has announced the resignation of his membership of the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC), on Sunday, June 21.
The Ondo deputy governor broke his bond with the ruling party following months of prolonged political feuds between him and his principal, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Agboola has since pitched his tents with the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after tendering his resignation letter at APC Ward 2, Apoi in Ese-Odo local government area of Ondo state.
Legit.ng recalls that Agboola and his boss have been at loggerheads over the control of the state with their relationship becoming frosty following Governor Akeredolu's declaration to seek re-election.
The rift between the governor and his deputy heightened on Saturday, June 20, as Governor Akeredolu allegedly stopped Agboola from leaving Ondo state house with government's vehicles.
Agboola, who is interested in governing the state, is said to have obtained PDP nomination form and is expected to officially declare his interest ahead of the primary election.
The deputy governor has also been reaching out to top hierarchies of PDP in Ondo state in a deal that will see other frontline aspirants peacefully bow out.
Permutations are similarly ongoing to pair Ajayi, who has fallen down the pecking order with Akeredolu, with Eyitayo Jegede, another political strongman in Ondo state.
