COVID-19 lockdown: Sanwo-Olu finally announces opening of churches, mosques, fixes date

Barely seventy-two hours after he declared that all religious activities remained banned, the Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said that worship centres in the state would be allowed to reopen from June 19.
Legit.ng reports that the governor said mosques are to reopen from Friday, June 19, while churches are to begin services from Sunday, June 21.
The governor made the announcement on Thursday, June 4, during a briefing at the Government House, Marina.
In a tweet by Gboyega Akosile, the chief press secretary to Governor Sanwo-Olu, the government said that children below age 15 would not be allowed into any religious centre.
Sanwo-Olu, however, said that religious gatherings are restricted to Fridays and Sundays only.
He said: "Muslim services to resume on 19th June while Christian worship begins on the 21st of June, 2020. Children below age 15 not allowed. Religious gatherings are restricted to Fridays and Sundays only."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Nigeria's Covid-19 cases exceeded 11,000 as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reports 348 new infections on Wednesday night, June 3.
It was reported that the federal health agency announced the new cases in 19 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, via its verified official Twitter handle.
According to the latest NCDC report, Nigeria now has 11,166 cases of Covid-19; with 3,329 recoveries and 315 deaths.
In another report, it was gathered that there was a pleasant prospect that the ban on religious centres across the country due to the ravaging crisis of coronavirus scourge would be lifted any time soon.
The probability became real after the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) met with the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19.
operatives of Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) were also at the meeting which was held on Tuesday, May 26, to fashion out modalities for reopening of religious centres.
Prior to the meeting, there has been pressure on the government to lift the ban placed on religious centres despite the spike in Covid-19 cases in Nigeria.
