Amid coronavirus pandemic, the federal government says it is considering morning, afternoon classes over school reopening.
This was disclosed by the minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba.
He said this during a briefing by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja.
According to him, the government could not afford to take any costly risk, especially as it regards the safety of pupils and students in the country.
“We may have classes in the morning and classes in the afternoon so that we will have the whole of the infrastructure divided provided they can serve us. I am not sure we will have classes at night. But we can do with morning and afternoon for now,” he explained.
Going further, he said the ministry is being guided by the advice of experts as well as those of the World Health Organisation.
He consequently appealed to private owners of schools in the country to co-operate with the government in ensuring the safe reopening of schools in the country.
The FG also faulted the reports which claimed that schools would reopen in the country on June 8.
Recall that Legit.ng had earlier reported that following the lockdown of schools due to the novel coronavirus, the federal government of Nigeria has disclosed that it would soon roll out the course of action for the reopening of these learning institutions.
This was disclosed by Boss Mustapha, chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, during a briefing on Wednesday, May 28.
He consequently urged local governments, proprietors and all other stakeholders to start making steps that will help in schools reopening.
“I wish to inform Nigerians that the Federal Ministry of Education will roll out measures for the self-reopening of schools.
“We, therefore, use this medium to urge states, local governments, proprietors and all other stakeholders to begin to take steps that will facilitate an early and safe reopening,” he said.
Legit.ng had also reported that as a mother, the first lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari has sent a warm message to Nigerian kids as they celebrate Children Day in lockdown amid coronavirus pandemic.
Aisha, on her Twitter page, said that this year's theme for the celebration is Promoting Girl-child Education for Sustainable Development.
The first lady urged stakeholders not to relent in the efforts that will ensure the education of the girl-child is sustained in terms of quality and scale.
She encouraged children to make profitable use of the lockdown, take their online studies seriously while praying for the re-opening of schools.
