COVID-19: Pastor Bakare donates church as isolation centre, Nigerians react

- Nigerians on social media have hailed Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Citadel Global Community Church for donating his church to the Lagos state government as an isolation centre

- Some Nigerians who hailed the Pastor also criticised other pastors that were against continuous closure of churches

- One of those who commended the cleric says the latter's Bible is different from what other pastors are using

Nigerians have reacted after Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Citadel Global Community Church formerly known as Latter Rain Assembly donated his church to the Lagos state government to be used as coronavirus isolation centre.

After the cleric made the announcement via the church's Twitter page on Sunday, May 10, it generated reactions from Nigerians on the microblogging site.

The tweet read: "The CGCC is offering the LASG parts of our current Church facilities at Akilo Road, Ogba, to be used as an isolation center for Covid-19 cases. The CGCC Medical Missions will onboard LASG officials to ensure the best utilization of this space.

"We commend the LASG and well-meaning individuals and corporate bodies for their efforts at controlling the spread of this pandemic in Lagos and by extension Nigeria. We pray for divine health, wisdom and energy for the leadership of Lagos State and frontline healthcare workers."

Reacting, a Twitter user identified as The Reviewer wrote: "I was telling you yesterday that it's Pastor Bakare that will respond and reset things about that "I smell a rat" comment. Here it is!"

Another user with the handle @global_honey said he is proud to be a member of the church.

The user wrote: "I'm proud to be a member. I was just telling someone that we should have built a world-class hospital earlier. Thanks Pastor B."

@akinolafestus said Pastor Bakare's Bible must be the original and not the same with what other pastors are using.

He tweeted: "I am speechless!!! Your own bible must be the original and not same with what others are using. The truth must be told to our religious leaders and thank you so much for the boldness to tell them and ur leadership by example. Thank u for ur kind gestures, God himself will reward u."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the founder of Living Faith Church popularly known as Winners Chapel, Bishop Davido Oyedepo, kicked against the revised lockdown directives which sidelined religious centres.

Recall that the lockdown in Lagos, Abuja and the Federal Capital Territory was relaxed by President Muhammadu Buhari, bringing a gradual resumption of activities.
