Coronavirus: WHO staff tests positive for COVID-19 in Bauchi, govt seals office

An official of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Bauchi state has tested positive for COVID-19 as the deadly virus continues to spread across states in Nigeria.
A statement released by Ibrahim Sani, on behalf of the health commissioner, Aliyu Maigoro, revealed the unnamed staff recently travelled to Kano and returned infected with the virus, Premium Times reports.
Following the development, the Bauchi state government said it has sealed the office complex which is shared by the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) and WHO.
Legit.ng gathers that the office complex which was decontaminated has now been sealed and will remain so for 14 days.

The office complex was sealed in order to prevent and de-escalate the spread of the virus in the state, the government explained.
The statement which was released on Sunday, April 19, also indicated that health officials had carried out contact-tracing of persons who had interacted physically with the latest confirmed case.
“All his contacts both in Bauchi and Kano have already been identified and isolated, and they under strict follow-up,” the statement reads.
UNICEF’s Communication Officer in the Bauchi Office, Sam Kaalu, who is also working from home, confirmed the development.
According to the data from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Bauch state has seven confirmed cases of COVID-19 as at Sunday night, April 19.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state said Abba Kyari, the late chief of staff to the president, gave him tips that helped him deal with COVID-19.
Bala Mohammed had tested positive for the coronavirus but later recovered from the disease after testing negative twice.
The Bauchi state governor said the late chief of staff gave him the tips while they were both being treated for disease during isolation.
In another report, Nigerians have lauded the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, for always being a source of calm.
Nigerians praised the pastor while reacting to the message he gave at his virtual service this Sunday, April 19.
They stated that the man of God is always calm whenever he gives his sermons.
They took to the popular micro-blogging platform, Twitter, to praise him, noting that Adeboye was also calm while talking about the coronavirus pandemic.
In his message, the man of God thanked health personnel and the government for the effort made during the pandemic.
He said for the future he would like to suggest that the government should include Imams and pastors in all their committees for the spiritual aspect.
The pastor said the coronavirus pandemic would recede but it would not disappear completely. He said the same happened with the flu and ebola.
