Coronavirus: 5 prophetic prayers for protection against COVID-19

It is a known fact that the world is trembling over the spread of coronavirus pandemic and the number of deaths being recorded from the disease on daily basis is another source of concern to all the countries globally, including the US, UK, France, and Italy.

On March 11, the World Health Organisation declared COVID-19 a global pandemic, affecting an exceptionally high proportion of the population over a wide geographic area.

In this article, Legit.ng examines what Islam says about how to prevent coronavirus and other forms of evil diseases.

First of all, Islam teaches that all diseases such as the coronavirus are tests from Allah and a natural part of life. Such diseases afflict whoever Allah allows them to afflict and they take the lives of whomever He has decided to bring to an end. Tests are part of life and should not be surprising for any Muslim when they occur.

Anyone who is afflicted with the illness, and is patient, will spiritually benefit from that test. The Prophet said: “Whatever trouble, illness, anxiety, grief, hurt or sorrow afflicts any Muslim, even the prick of a thorn, God removes some of his sins by it.” (Bukhārī 5641).

As Muslims, it is important to remind ourselves that everything occurs by the will and divine wisdom of Allah, the Most High. When faced with trials and adversities, Prophet Muhammad (May the peace of Allah be upon him) prayed to Allah through constant invocations with the language of love and servant-hood.

In dealing with coronavirus, Muslims are advised to strengthen their faith in these difficult times and to increase their prayers and supplications to Allah (swt), to take preventive measures to help contain the situation.

The Messenger of Allah said that whoever sees an afflicted person and says the above-mentioned dua would never be afflicted by that particular disease in his life.

However, this Dua’a should be said in secret, in order not to give the person afflicted by it a feeling of pain.

One should also recite the duas to remain protected from the disease and the supplications are encouraged to be read daily, particularly in the morning and in the afternoon.
