FG terminates N20,000 cash transfer contracts in four states

The federal government has disclosed that it terminated two contracts for N20,000 cash transfers to Nigerians in four states due to breach of the contract on the part of the contractors.
Sadiya Farouq, the minister of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday, April 14, Premium Times reports.

The minister said the four states in which the contracts were terminated are Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Abia and Zamfara state.
The minister faulted the delays in the current payment round of N20,000 to beneficiaries of poor and vulnerable households in the four states.

She noted that the federal government through the ministry would not allow contractors to derail the conditional cash transfers to the poor and the vulnerable citizens.
Meanwhile, amid coronavirus, the federal government has said that its palliatives will be given to very poor persons in the country and those who are living with disabilities.
This was revealed by the minister of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development, Sadiya Umar-Farouk, on Monday, April 13, in Abuja, Daily Trust reports.
Moreover, in response to the request by state governors, the federal government has handed over the task of the distribution of palliatives to governors amid coronavirus.
The new decision of the Nigerian government was announced by Umar-Farouk in her speech at a national briefing on the efforts of the federal government to assist governors with funds.
In another news, N-Power beneficiaries under the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) in Kogi, on Tuesday, April 14, have begged the federal government to pay their stipend for March 2020.

The Nation reports that some of the beneficiaries in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja, said the payment of the stipend would enable them to take care of their needs during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Legit.ng gathered that N-power-teach beneficiary, James Abayomi, said that the non-payment of their March stipend had brought untold hardship to them.
He urged President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the payment, noting that the programme, which the president initiated had “really helped us a lot."

Another beneficiary of N-power-Agro, Abdullahi Umar, decried the delay in the payment of their monthly stipends, especially under the new ministry of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development.
Umar urged the minister in the ministry, Hajiya Sadiya Farouk, to address the challenge without any further delay.
