The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III-led Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has berated some governors for lifting the ban on religious gatherings amid growing coronavirus scare.
The Muslim body, in a message on Sunday, April 12, by its director of administration, Yusuf Chinedozie Nwoha, described the decision to reopen the churches and mosque by some governors as ill-timed and "ridiculous because COVID-19 has no cure yet."
Legit.ng gathers that Chinedozie Nwoha made the statement when the body was distributing relief materials to some vulnerable residents in Mbape community, Abuja.
The body emphasised that if people know the magnitude of the coronavirus crisis, they will not hesitate to state at home.
“If people understand the magnitude of the problem we’re dealing with, they’ll we stay at home. This pandemic has overwhelmed advanced nations and we know the level of our capacity in this country," NSCIA said.
“The mosque in Saudi Arabia is under lock and key. The city of Vatican is under lock and key. I beg Nigerians in the name of the Almighty God, they should understand the magnitude of this crisis and stay at home.
"Christians or Muslims and those who do not worship God, COVID-19 is a respecter of nobody.”
Meanwhile, in the spirit of co-existence, Sultan of Sokoto, who is the Muslim leader in the country, has felicitated with Christian faithful on Sunday as they marked another glorious Easter year.
In his message, the traditional monarch urged Christian fellows to follow the tenants of the Easter as "it symbolises rebirth, renewal and reawakening."
