Coronavirus: NAF moves medical supply donated by Jack Ma to Abuja

- NAF personnel have airlifted Jack Ma's donate medical supply to Abuja

The medical supply donated by Chinese billionaire Jack Ma has been airlifted to Abuja from Lagos by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

The supply which was sent to Nigeria to help the country fight against the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) was moved from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos to the Nnmadi Azikiwe International Airport(NAIA), Abuja.

This was disclosed by NAF in a statement on their official Facebook page.

The national security outfit also said this was done in fulfilment of the NAF's roles of providing Military Aid to Civil Authority (MACA).

NAF said the donated medical materials which it airlifted consist of 107 boxes of medical supplies and equipment.

It said this comprises surgical masks, medical disposable protective clothing, face shields and detection kits, weighing about 3,000 pounds.

It said the mission was airlifted in a single mission using the NAF C-130 Hercules aircraft (NAF 913).

Going further, NAF said the supply was handed over by the NAF Aircrew to a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Health led by the permanent secretary, Alhaji Abdulazeez Mashi Abdullahi on Wednesday, March 25.

Recall that Legit.ng reported that Jack Ma fulfilled his promise to donate medical equipment to tackle coronavirus in Africa.

African countries have been receiving the donations since Sunday, March 22 when the first batch of equipment arrived Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.

The flight carried 5.4 million face masks, kits for 1.08 million detection tests, 40,000 sets of protective clothing and 60,000 sets of protective face shields.

The remaining shipments of medical supplies are expected to reach Addis Ababa and be distributed to more African nations over the next few weeks.

An Ethiopian Airlines Freighter landed on Tuesday, March 24 at Murtala Muhammed International Airport by 3.20pm to deliver the medical supplies.

“We appreciate the donation of the Jack Ma Foundation and the generosity of Jack Ma. We admire Abiy Ahmed, our Prime Minister, for his initiative and organization of the entire coordination of the process,” Firihiewot Mekonnen, general manager, Ethiopian Airlines, Nigeria said while receiving the supplies.
