Coronavirus: Nigerians rate FG poor in containing spread of COVID-19

- A large number of Nigerians seem to be dissatisfied with the efforts of the federal government in containing the spread of the coronavirus infection

- Despite the efforts by the government to contain the spread of coronavirus, two recent polls conducted by Legit.ng shows that many Nigerians do not think the government is doing enough

A large number of Nigerians seem to be dissatisfied with the efforts of the federal government in handling the spread of the coronavirus infection in the country.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed that the number of coronavirus cases in Nigeria have risen to 46. Among them are some high profile individuals including a son of a former vice president and the chief of staff to the Nigerian president, Abba Kyari.

The country has recorded one death related to the coronavirus disease.

The government has imposed a ban on foreign flights and limited movements within the country to stop the rapid spread of the disease.

However, despite the efforts by the government to contain the spread of coronavirus, two recent polls conducted by Legit.ng shows that many Nigerians do not think the government is doing enough.

One of the polls conducted on Facebook showed that while 17% of respondents rated the efforts of the government as excellent, 83% graded the government’s efforts as poor.

In the other poll conducted on Twitter, 21% of respondents rated efforts of the government as excellent while 67 rated the government efforts as poor.

Meanwhile, some Nigerians have expressed fear over a scheduled British Airways flight expected to depart Heathrow Airport, London for Lagos on Wednesday, March 25, despite the federal government’s flight ban imposed on high-risk countries over the coronavirus pandemic.

England is one of the countries battling with the coronavirus infection and the virus has reportedly killed 340 in the United Kingdom.

A check by Legit.ng showed that the departure and arrival time of the British Airways flight is also shown on the website of the airline.

Some Nigerians who are alarmed by the incident have warned that the country would face serious health risks if the flight is allowed to land.

The concerned Nigerians called for the flight to be canceled immediately to avoid compounding the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
