Coronavirus: NCDC announces new guidelines for self-isolation
The coronavirus outbreak took a frightening effect on Wednesday, March 18, in Nigeria as five more cases were recorded, officially bringing the number of victims to eight within the space of one month.
The new cases were confirmed by the special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on new media, Tolu Ogunlesi, on Wednesday, barely twenty-four hours after the third case was reported.
In a series of tweet, Ogunlesi said four of the victims are Nigerians who just came from the United States of America and United Kingdom.
The presidential aide also claimed that one of the four new Nigerian victims is a 6-week old baby — the youngest victim reported so far.
He added that the fifth victim is a "foreign national who came in through the land border — the first case of infection via land border in Nigeria."
As the coronavirus scare hits the high wave, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday issued new guidance for people advised to stay in quarantine.
In a message on its official Twitter page, NCDC director-general, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, in the new brochure released the guidelines as follows:
Self-Isolation: What does it mean?
According to NCDC, self-isolation means strictly staying at home or identified accommodation, away from situations where you mix with family members or the general public, for the period of 14 days.
Who should isolate?
1. All returning travellers to Nigeria
2. Anyone who has been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19
If you have not been in contact with someone who has been infected with COVID-19, your risk of getting COVID-19 is very low.
This is a stressful period, but taking these measures will help protect you, your family, and all of Nigeria from COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the United States embassy in Abuja and the consulate office in Lagos has cancelled immigrant and non-immigrant visa appointments in the country.
The embassy disclosed this in a tweet via its official Twitter handle, US Embassy Abuja, on Wednesday, March 18, saying the visa services will resume as soon as possible.
