A report has claimed that the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, played a part in stopping the re-appointment of Dakuku Peterside as the director-general of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
The Nation newspaper reported that Rotimi Amaechi did not submit the name of Dakuku Peterside for re-appointment as the NIMASA.
The newspaper, citing sources in the presidency, said Amaechi favoured another candidate for the position.
The sources said the presidency, however, rejected Amaechi’s choice and decided to pick Bashir Jamoh, as the new executive director of the agency.
Jamoh was reportedly appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari to replace Peterside after the expiration of his four years in office.
Meanwhile, the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has reacted to the alleged removal of Dakuku Peterside, the director-general of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
Ameachi said on a Television show on Thursday, March 5, that he was not aware of the alleged sack of Peterside and his replacement by Jamoh.
He added that he would be the one to formally intimate the DG if he is sacked, adding that President Buhari has not directed him to intimate Peterside of his sack.
The transportation minister, however, said President Buhari has the power to either replace him when his tenure ends on March 10 or extend his tenure.
In another report, following the uproar that greeted President Muhammadu Buhari's appointment of Bashir Jamoh as the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the ruling APC has said the appointment was based on merit and competence and not nepotism as alluded in some quarters.

Reacting to the appointment on Friday, March 6 during a chat with journalists in Abuja, the deputy national publicity secretary of the party, Yekini Nabena, faulted the notion that the head of NIMASA must come from a particular section of the country.
The APC deputy spokesman cautioned that people should not always have ethnic mindset whenever a decision is taken by the president.
Meanwhile, two executive directors at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) have reportedly been sacked following the alleged appointment of Bashir Jamoh as the agency's new director-general.
The Nation reports President Muhammadu Buhari sacked Rotimi Fasakin (Executive Director Operations) and Gambo Ahmed (Executive Director, Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services) and appointed three new ones.
The newspaper adds that its sources familiar with the matter said Victor Ochei, a former Delta speaker, will take over from Ahmed.
Legit.ng notes that the latest development follows the yet-to-be officially announced appointment of Jamoh to replace Dakuku Peterside as the DG of NIMASA.
In another news, the dethroned emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, seems not to have lost everything after his deposition and banishment by the state government.
This is as the Kaduna state government on Tuesday, March 10, honoured the former monarch with a new appointment, Premium Times reports.
Sanusi has been appointed into the board of the Kaduna Investment Promotion Agency (KADIPA).
El-Rufai added that it is an honour for the state to call for the services of the dethroned emir, who before his position as a traditional ruler had an international reputation in the world of finance.
