- Shehu Sani has condemned the dethronement of Emir Muhammad Sanusi II
- Sani said that the decision of the Kano state government shows how it is intoxicated with power
- The former senator claimed that Sanusi's sack is a violation of due process
A former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has berated the Kano state government over the dethronement of Emir Muhammad Sanusi II.
On his official Twitter page, Sani said that the sack of Sanusi is a clear case of the intoxication of power on the part of the state government.
The former senator said that the decision of the state is a complete diversion from established norms and goes to show "the incompatibility of the crown and the conscience."
He added that this is "the consequences of dissent against established norms and the heavy price of holding principles in our north. It also revealed the intolerance and toxicity of the liquor of power."
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Kano state government on Monday, March 9, dethroned Sanusi who had been under much heat throughout the Emirate crisis rocking the state.
Sanusi's dethronement came after the state's council executive meeting presided over by the governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Confirming the development, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, Kano's Secretary to the State Government (SSG) said that the monarch's sack takes effect from Monday.

Usman said that the emir’s action violated the part 3 section A-E of Kano state law and that his removal was a decision reached after a lot of consultation with all relevant stakeholders.
Calling on Kano people to calm over the development, the SSG said that a replacement will be made in due time and made known to the public.
Before this, Legit.ng had reported that Sani had pleaded with Ganduje to thread softly in his dealing with Sanusi ll.
Legit.ng understood that the former lawmaker asked the governor to forgive Emir Sanusi of any wrongdoing.
Sani in a tweet on Friday, March 6, via his verified Twitter account, @ShehuSani, urged governor Ganduje to “forgive, forget and move on and let the Emir be.” He reminded the governor that power was transient and as such, he may need the Emir someday.
The Emir was facing a fresh probe by Kano state public complaints and anti-corruption commission over allegation of N2.2 billion land scam.
