- Lauretta Onochie has tackled Femi Fani-Kayode over his inquiry into why the identity of Nigeria's first coronavirus patient has not been revealed
- In a response to former minister of aviation, the presidential aide on social media said the identity of the Italian is not revealed in order to protect his privacy
- Onochie backed his claim with a video of Covid-19 patient in the United state being offered shield against the public by medical staff
Lauretta Onochie, an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on social media, says the government refused to disclose the identity Italian man who tested positive to coronavirus in Nigeria due to privacy reason.
Onochie stated this through a post on her account on a micro-blogging platform Twitter on Saturday, March 7, in response to an early inquiry made by for minister of aviation and top Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Fani Kayode.
On March 4, the former minister had called for the disclosure of the identity of an Italian citizen who arrived from Milan to Lagos and tested positive to coronavirus.
In a post that garnered massive engagement on Twitter, Fani-Kayode expressed that "Italian that brought coronavirus into Nigeria has not been named & his picture has not been released to the public."
But reacting to his post on Saturday, Onochie said Nigeria is keeping the identity of Italian patient of coronavirus officially known as Covid-19 in order to accord his privacy deserving respect.
The presidential aide backed her claim up with a video of the patient of the deadly infection in the United States being shielded against the public lens by medical official giving him treatment.
"Privacy is the right of every human. Well or unwell. Here are respectful people shielding the identity of a patient," Onochie said.
"Nigeria is keeping the identity of the Italian receiving treatment for COVID-19 infection. But Femi Fani Kayode, Nigeria's foremost drug addict, wants his identity."
