Coronavirus: No symptoms in 39 quarantined persons - Ogun commissioner

- As the world continues to deal with coronavirus, the 39 persons quarantined in Ogun state have not shown any signs of the disease

- The individuals were quarantined over their contact with the Italian national who imported the virus into the country

- The Ogun state commissioner for health disclosed that the Italian who was transferred to Lagos is responding to treatment at the isolation centre

As coronavirus keeps spreading globally, the 39 persons who were quarantined in the isolation facility in Ewekoro, Ogun state, are not developing any symptom of the disease, the commissioner for health, Tomi Coker, has said.

Recall that 39 persons who had contact with an Italian patient who imported the virus into Nigeria had been quarantined.

The commissioner said the 44-year-old Italian national is responding to treatment, The Cable reports.

According to Coker who led a team to the Redeemed Christian Church of God campground located along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, there was a need to sensitise religious leaders so they can also take the message to their followers.

She reiterated the importance of personal hygiene at different levels.

The Ogun commissioner once again urged religious leaders to join hands with the government in enlightening the members of the public.

Also lending her voice, Bola Olayinka, team lead, African Region, World Health Organisation, advised those who are in the habit of touching their face and other body parts without washing the hands to desist from doing so.

Tribune reports that she also pointed out the need for social distancing in the event of respiratory tract infection.

Following the emergence of the first case of the deadly coronavirus in Lagos, Governor Seyi Makinde had placed health facilities in Oyo state on high alert.

The state's health commissioner, Dr Bashir Bello, said needed resources have been sent to all hospitals in the case of unforeseen circumstances.

Although Bello confirmed that there is no known case of the deadly disease in Oyo yet, he said the government had partnered with necessary agencies and even security forces to curb the spread should the virus enter the state.

Meanwhile, Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president of Nigeria, said that he was forced to adjust events lined up to mark his 83rd birthday due to the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.

Following the emergence of coronavirus in Nigeria, there have been mixed reactions about the significance of its presence in Nigeria and measures to stay protected from the virus.

When Legit TV took to the streets to find out from Nigerians their opinion about the virus and their confidence in the government to fight it as they did during the Ebola crises, the responses were pretty interesting.

One man, when asked if he was scared of getting infected, replied in the negative. He stated that he was a child of God and believed in the power of His protection. He also emphasized on being protected as he is a member of 'Chosen', a popular church known for their radical evangelism.
