Security: 3 LG councillors abducted in Zamfara, kidnappers demand N40m

- Zamfara was left in panic after three supervisory councillors of Gummi local council were abducted by kidnappers

- The abductors reportedly demanded N40 million ransom before they could be released

- Zamfara police command's PRO Shehu Mohammed said the counsellors have regained freedom but the force is gathering information on the kidnappers

Zamfara has been plunged into fear following the abduction of three supervisory councillors of Gummi local council as the activities of bandits and kidnappers intensify in the state.

Confirming the incident on Thursday, March 5, SP Shehu Mohammed, who is the public relations officer of the state command, said the police are still gathering intelligence guidance on the abductors.

Mohammed, however, confirmed that the abductees have regained their freedom, though reports claimed the kidnappers made a whopping demand of N40 million ransom, NAN reports.

"All three have been released. We are still gathering details and we will make it public after we complete our investigations," Mohammed said.

The names of the kidnapped councillors are Lawali AC Milan, Sahabi Abubakar and Murtala Arzika who reports claimed escaped from the den of the kidnappers.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, says bandits in the north region of the country would be given terrorist treatment following a recent attack in Kaduna.

The IGP made the declaration on Tuesday, March 3, during a meeting with top officers of the force in Kaduna.

Adamu stressed on the need for new strategies which will enable the police to eliminate the bandits from their hideouts, adding that all hands must be on deck to stop the surging wave of banditry in the country.

It was reported that suspected bandits attacked and killed at least 30 people in some villages in Igabi and Giwa local government areas of Kaduna state in what appeared to be a reprisal strike on the villagers suspected to be giving information to security agencies.

The attack reportedly left several local residents of Kerawa, Rago, Marina, Zariyawa, Hashimawa, Gidan Musa Saidu, and Unguwar Barau severely injured, while many properties were destroyed.

The death toll has now soared up to 50, sending bad signals about the spread of the bandit menace in the north region.
