Coronavirus: US testing ex-INEC chairman's treatment - Minister says

- The minister of science and technology has announced a breakthrough in the coronavirus treatment founded by former INEC chairman, Maurice Iwu

- Dr. Ogbonanya Onu explained that the US has started tests on Iwu's possible treatment

- Onu also dismissed reports that the former INEC chairman had found a cure

Dr. Ogbonanya Onu, the minister of science and technology, said the United States of America is currently conducting tests on a ‘chemical compound’ found by the former Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) chairman, Professor Maurice Iwu as a possible cure for coronavirus.

In a report by Vanguard, the minister refuted reports suggesting that the ex-INEC chairman had found a cure for the virus.

Onu further explained that Iwu's initial finding was that the compound could cure SARS and tests are being carried out to see if it can cure coronavirus. He said: “They are testing it in the US to confirm whether this could be a cure for Covid -19 or SARS.”

This development is coming after the former INEC chairman announced that his team found a possible treatment for the deadly coronavirus.

Iwu had said that the COVID-19 virus is one of the diseases his research group has been studying for years.
