Kaduna attack: IGP declares bandits will be given Boko Haram treatment

- Mohammed Adamu, Inspector-General of Police, says henceforth bandits in the north will be given terrorist treatments

- This declaration trailed a series of attacks in Igabi and Giwa local government areas of Kaduna state

- IGP called for all hands to be on deck towards the fight against the menace of bandits in north region

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, says bandits in the north region of the country would be given terrorist treatment following a recent attack in Kaduna.

The IGP made the declaration on Tuesday, March 3, during a meeting with top officers of the force in Kaduna, Channels TV reports.

Adamu stressed on the need for new strategies which will enable the police to eliminate the bandits from their hideouts, adding that all hands must be on deck to stop the surging wave of banditry in the country.

Legit.ng earlier reported that suspected bandits attacked and killed at least 30 people in some villages in Igabi and Giwa local government areas of Kaduna state in what appeared to be a reprisal strike on the villagers suspected to be giving information to security agencies.

The attack reportedly left several local residents of Kerawa, Rago, Marina, Zariyawa, Hashimawa, Gidan Musa Saidu, and Unguwar Barau severely injured, while many properties were destroyed.

The death toll has now soared up to 50, sending bad signals about the spread of the bandit menace in the north region.

Reacting to the attack, IGP Mohammed Adamu called for a collective effort toward the fight against terrorism and banditry.

He also charged the police officers to show commitment towards ensuring the protection of lives and properties.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Nasir El-Rufai, Kaduna governor, has rekindled commitment towards ending the menace of banditry in the state following a reprisal attack on some villages in Igabi and Giwa local government.

Speaking at the scene of the incidents, El-Rufai said his government would not give the attackers a breathing space.

The governor also said he would not grant amnesty to the bandit, saying there would not be any form of negotiation with the criminals terrorising the peace of the state.
