Sultan of Sokoto says Nigeria will defeat terrorism

- The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar lll, expresses the confidence that despite the current situation of things, Nigeria will overcome the security challenges in the country

- The sultan says killings in the country have escalated to the point that the rich are avoiding the poor for fear of being harmed

- The monarch called on Nigerians to love each other no matter the situation and religion

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar lll, has assured Nigerians that the country will win the battle against insurgency despite the current situation.

Sultan Abubakar gave the assurance on Thursday, February 20, when speaking at a conference on love and tolerance in Abuja, Daily Trust reports.

The sultan, who was represented by the Emir of Jiwa, Idris Musa, said the killings in the country have escalated to the point that the rich are avoiding the poor for fear of being harmed.

The monarch urged Nigerians to stop their sinful ways and abide by God’s instructions. He asked Muslims and Christians to pray for God to show mercy and restore peace and progress in Nigeria.

He called on Nigerians to love each other no matter the situation and religion.

In another report, the inspector general of police, Mohammed Adamu, has said none of the security agencies in the country has the calibre of weapons in the possession of criminals.

The police chief made this known at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, February 19, when he received senior officers of the police, Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies.

Adamu said there is a correlation between the increase in crisis in southern Nigeria and the number of weapons in the hands of militants.

The IGP hinted that the weapons are being smuggled to the country through the sea, adding that the criminals stealing crude and other products parade such sophisticated weapons.

Meanwhile, the governor of Borno state, Babagana Zulum, has revealed some key steps the federal government must take in order to win the insurgency war in the northeast.

Governor Zulum said the Nigerian Army lacks the manpower and necessary equipment to defeat the Boko Haram insurgents.

To conquer the insurgents, the Borno state governor said the Nigerian Army needs to embark on massive recruitment to engage at least 100,000 additional soldiers.
