Buhari won’t resign over insecurity - FG
- Resignation is not an option for President Muhammadu Buhari
- This view was expressed by Lai Mohammed, the minister of information and culture, on Thursday, February 20
- Mohammed said Buhari is still in the business of supporting the military and the police with the wherewithal to eliminate insecurity in Nigeria
In reaction to calls from different sections of the country for the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari over the rising level of insecurity, the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, has said that this will never happen.
Mohammed said that President Buhari, as he has always done, will continue to give the military and all security agencies in Nigeria the needed support to defeat insurgency and violent crimes in the country.
The minister also stated that the president will not consider resignation as an option over insecurity because he was given the mandate to protect the lives and properties of Nigerian citizens in 2015 and 2019. He added that the Nigerian leader's tenure will only end in 2023, The Nation reports.
Mohammed said: “As I said earlier, the country is facing security challenges, and the challenges are being tackled headlong. These challenges will be successfully tackled. To those asking Mr. President to resign, I wish to say this: Mr. President will not resign.”

He, therefore, called on commentators, some media outfits and even politicians who are trying to further aggravate the already tense situation of things in the country to apply caution.
Moreover, Mohammed said that the federal government will not go back on its decision to regulate social media in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Femi Gbajabiamila, the speaker of the House of Representatives, had sought the support of the Peoples Republic of China to end insecurity in Nigeria.
Legit.ng gathered that the speaker noted that both Nigeria and China have been having good economic and political relationships, saying that there was a need to establish strong military ties between the two countries with a view to ending insecurity.
Speaking when he received the ambassador of the Peoples Republic of China, Zhou Pingjian, on a courtesy call in his office in Abuja on Tuesday, February 18, Gbajabiamila said Nigeria needs help at this time from wherever it could get it.
"What I'll implore you is on the military relationships. Our biggest problem right now is the issue of insecurity, and we'll be happy to get help now from wherever we can. So, in terms of military ties, we'll be happy to get help from you at this time," Gbajabiamila said.
