Amotekun: Ekiti to translate law, others into Yoruba language

- The Ekiti state government is very serious about making the operation of Amotekun a reality for its people

- To prove this, the state's Ministry of Justice is to translate the bills backing the security outfit into Yoruba

- The directive is in keeping with Governor Kayode Fayemi's promise of better participation in governance during his administration

By the directive of Governor Kayode Fayemi, the Ekiti Ministry of Justice will soon begin the translation of the legislation that backs the creation of Amotekun alongside other laws into the Yoruba language for better understanding and interpretation.

Commenting on the readiness of the government to carry out the task, the state's commissioner for justice, Olawale Fapohunda, said that the legislation, known as the Ekiti Security Network Agency bills, has been read at the state Assembly.

The commissioner said that being that the bills, when signed, will affect the lives of residents of rural communities in the state, it is imperative for them to be fully explained in the people's local language.

He said that this is part of Fayemi's plan to effect greater participation of the people in the business of governance, adding that the translation of the laws will be in phases.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a former commissioner of police in Lagos, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, had reacted to the creation of regional security networks in Nigeria.

In his view, Tsav said that such outfits like Amotekun from the southwest and Shege Ka Fasa in the north, if allowed to thrive, would eventually disintegrate Nigeria.

In fact, the retired police chief in Lagos claimed that both security initiatives are actually grand strategies to break up the country.

He noted that part of the reason people are going about such moves is that they are actually dissatisfied with the present outlook of things.

Tsav said: "I think the aim of setting up these regional security outfits is part of the grand plan to break up this country one day.

"So, these people are setting up their own regional security organizations. And once these organizations become strong, they will threaten the unity of this country."

He lamented that there were lots of unemployed Nigerians who could be employed, trained, retrained by the police and sent into remote villages to tackle insecurity there, but that the funds meant for these are being stolen.
