Bayelsa: Former Niger Delta militants threaten to resume attacks over Lyon ouster
- The ouster of David Lyon as the validly elected governor of Bayelsa is still generating reactions
- Former Niger Delta militants have threatened to resume attacks in the region if David Lyon is not restored as Bayelsa governor
- The former militants under the aegis of Reformed Niger Delta Avengers said injustice was done to Lyon
Former Niger Delta militants have threatened to resume attacks in the region if David Lyon is not restored as the governor of Bayelsa state.
Lyon, All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship election in the last Bayelsa state governorship election, was sacked by the Supreme Court last week.
The Supreme Court, in its ruling, noted that the deputy governorship candidate of the APC, Senator Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo forged his credentials.
A Federal High Court had earlier ruled that the credentials of Degi-Eremienyo were forged before an Appeal Court reversed it.

The former militants under the aegis of Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA) in an open letter said they have served notice to the Supreme Court and the presidency over their preparation to resume hostilities on oil installations in the Niger Delta if Lyon is not allowed to resume office.
The RNDA, in the letter signed by its leaders in the nine states of the Niger Delta, stated that the recent judgment of the Supreme Court nullifying the election of David Lyon is unacceptable.
The leader of RNDA, Johnmark Ezon Ebi (also known as Obama), said a great injustice was done to Lyon and the APC by the court.
He said failure to restore the Lyon “will result in an unimaginable outcome” and RNDA “should not be held responsible for whatever damage that will lead to the bombing of oil pipelines to cripple the economy of the country.”
“Douye Diri cannot be governor and can never be because somebody who was not duly elected cannot be imposed on the people.
“If nothing is done to reverse this orchestrated judgement to remove the unpopular governor that is illegally occupying David Lyon seat in the Creek Haven Government House, the RNDA will be left with no other option than to declare war in the creeks and continue from where we stopped,” the group said.
Meanwhile, a group, Lawyers in Defence of Democracy (LDD) have urged members and sympathisers of the APC to stop their verbal attacks on Justice Mary Odili of the Supreme Court following the loss of the party in the Bayelsa state.
APC members and their supporters had singled out Justice Odili for derision days after the apex court sacked the party as the winner of last year's governorship election.
The group advised the APC to follow the legal ways of seeking redress instead of maligning justices of the apex court.
