I’ll make Nigeria inhabitable for corrupt persons - Buhari

During the passing out parade of 281 inspector cadets of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Kaduna on Tuesday, February 18, President Muhammadu Buhari made some promises as his administration continues to battle corruption in Nigeria.
President Buhari, in his speech at the ceremony, said that his government will not relent in making sure that Nigeria remains inhabitable for corrupt persons, The Nation reports
He made it clear that the federal government is achieving this by making all its financial activities as transparent as possible while discouraging secret criminal deals in public offices through open screening.

President Buhari said: "My aim is to ensure that no government financial transaction is done in secret and all are subjected to public scrutiny"
The president said that with the untiring efforts of the EFCC, the country is gaining the upper hand over corruption and that this is becoming more obvious to the international community, which is why, according to him, Nigeria is regaining her global reputation.
To prove this, he said that the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) in its 10th convention applauded Nigeria for retaining the position of the vice-chairman of the conference of state parties for two consecutive sessions (7th and 8th).

The president state that the country achieved these feats partly by its high number of asset recovery cases.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Ibrahim Magu, the acting chairman of the EFCC, had appealed to the government of United Kingdom (UK) to extradite the former petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to account for alleged missing of $2.5 billion in her ministry during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Magu, at a media briefing in Kaduna on Monday, February 17, ahead of the Tuesday, February 18, passing out parade of EFCC trainees at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), said personnel of the commission were trained to, “shoot and kill corruption in Nigeria, so we cannot be challenged by any threat."
Legit.ng gathered that while fielding questions from reporters, the EFCC boss said Diezani has stolen so much money that she needed to be extradited to the country to return the money back to the federal government.
