Omo-Agege condemns herdsmen attack on Delta community

- The deputy Senate president has condemned the recent attacks on his constituents

- Suspected herdsmen have unleashed a number of attacks on different communities in Delta

- The most recent attack claimed the lives of eight at Ughelli North local government area of Delta state

On Sunday, February 16, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege strongly condemned the death of eight people who were recently killed in an attack at Uwheru Kingdom in Delta state.

The deputy Senate president in a statement made available to Legit.ng called on the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to bring the suspects to justice quickly.

The senator representing Delta state central senatorial district went on to charge the Nigerian Army to fish out soldiers who were alleged to have accompanied the killers. Omo-Agege in reaction to the attack urged security agencies to restore normalcy to the areas affected.

The lawmaker said: "I condemn the unprovoked attacks and killing of my constituents and the destruction of their property by suspected herdsmen. The attacks on Avwon, Agadama, Ohoror, and other communities of Uwheru Kingdom, is one too many.

"I call on security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book by ensuring that they face the wrath of the law. I assure the people of Uwheru Kingdom that this matter will not swept under the carpet and that the full weight of the law will be brought on those found culpable".

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Delta state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on Friday, February 14, condemned the renewed attack on villagers in the state. In a statement by his spokesman, Olisa Ifeajika, the governor flayed the crisis which he said had resulted in unwarranted killings of innocent locals.

Okowa said he has directed the commissioner of police and the Brigade Commander, 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Asaba, to as a matter of urgency ensure that peace was restored to the communities.

Recall that three policemen were reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen, along the road at Oshimili North local government area in Delta state. The tragic incident took place at police check-point along Ugbolu - Illah road on Tuesday, February 4.

An eyewitness giving an account of the incident said the three policemen met their untimely death when they attempted to stop a motorcycle carrying two male passengers who refused to stop.
