Imo governorship: Supreme Court to hear Ihedioha’s fresh application on Feb 18

- The Supreme Court has reportedly agreed to hear a fresh application by Emeka Ihedioha challenging the judgment which removed from office as governor of Imo state

- Ihedioha is praying for the apex court to set aside the judgment which declared Hope Uzodinma of the APC as Imo governor

- Festus Jombo, a counsel to Uzodinma says he has heard about the new date but his office has not been served the hearing notice

The Supreme Court has reportedly fixed Tuesday, February 18, to hear a fresh application by Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP, challenging a judgment delivered by the apex court which removed him as governor of Imo state.

Daily Trust cited a circulated on Saturday, February 15, from the Supreme Court announcing the date for the hearing.

The newspaper stated that Ihedioha’s application dated February 5, 2020, filed through his counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN), is praying the apex court to set aside the judgment which declared Hope Uzodinma of the APC as Imo governor.

Reacting to the reported hearing, the lawyer representing Governor Hope Uzodinma, Festus Jombo, said although he heard about the new date, his office had not been served the hearing notice.

Meanwhile, the protests in Owerri, the Imo state capital has continued after the controversial verdict by the Supreme Court ousting Emeka Ihedioha as the governor.

Since the apex court's verdict, residents of the state have trooped out almost on a daily basis protesting what they say is an injustice to Ihedioha and the people of Imo

On Wednesday, February 12, popular entertainer, Charles Oputa jnr also known as Charly Boy, joined thousands of Imolites who took to the streets demanding justice.

The protests were held despite threats by the incumbent governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, that he won't tolerate some processions in the state any longer.

Uzodinma's pronouncement might have irked many Imolites as Wednesday's protest witnessed the highest number of people so far since the processions started.

In another news, the Imo state chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has thrown its weight behind the verdict of January 14, by the Supreme Court of Nigeria which declared Hope Uzodinma as the winner of the Io state election.

The president of the chapter, Ezechi Chukwu, while speaking in Owerri said an analysis by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo has shown that Uzodinma's mandate was restored in line with the extant laws of the land.
