NDDC: Buhari writes Senate on reconstitution of board

- President Muhammadu Buhari has spoken on the recomposition of the NDDC board members

- The president said that the list of the members will be sent to the Senate at the end of the commission's audit

- President Buhari made this known in a letter to the Senate president, Ahmad Lawan, on Tuesday, January 28

In a letter to the Senate, President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, January 28, revealed when the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) board will be formed.

President Buhari said that the recomposition of the board will be done at the end of the ongoing forensic audit of the commission which is being carried out by the interim management committee, Vanguard reports.

In a letter sent to the Senate president, Ahmad Lawan, and read on the floor of the house, the president said that the list of board members of the NDDC will be made available to the red chamber after the committee's reports have been submitted.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that President Buhari, in the morning of Thursday, December 19, announced that the board of the NDDC would be reconstituted.

A statement by Femi Adesina, the president's spokesperson, said the recomposition of the new board would take place after the ongoing forensic audit of the commission which is entangled in alleged corruption web.

This development is coming about two months after the Senate screened the list of a board sent to the lawmakers by President Buhari.

The board, as earlier composed by Buhari, was to be led by Pius Odubu, former deputy governor of Edo state in the administration of Adams Oshiomhole.

The board, which has not been inaugurated, also had Chief Bernard Okumagba from Delta as managing director.

Others who were to serve in the board included: Maxwell Omo from Bayelsa who should have been an executive director in charge of finance and administration as well as Engr Otobong Ndem who should have served as executive director for projects.

"President Muhammadu Buhari has approved that the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) be recomposed and inaugurated after the forensic audit of the organisation," the statement said.

The statement added: "The president has also directed that the interim management team of the NDDC shall be in place till the forensic is completed and that the supervision of the commission shall remain under the ministry of Niger Delta affairs."
