Maryam Sanda sentenced to death for killing husband

- Maryam Sanda has been sentenced to death

- The judge dismissed Sanda’s claim that her husband fell on a broken Shisha pot during a fight

- However, immediately the judgement was delivered, she attempted to run out of the courtroom

Maryam Sanda has been found guilty of killing her husband Bilyaminu Bello.

As a result of this, the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, on Monday, January 27, sentenced her to death by hanging.

Recall that the police charged Sanda for the offence in November 2017.

While delivering the judgement, Justice Yusuf Halilu said there was compelling evidence to convict the accused.

The judge, therefore, dismissed Sanda’s claim that her husband fell on a broken Shisha pot during the fight that led to his death.

According to the judge, this is a “smokescreen to deceive the court”.

He said Sanda intentionally stabbed her husband with a kitchen knife with intent to ”kill”.
