The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Kolapo Osunsanya, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of the election for Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu/Ijebu North-East Federal Constituency in Ogun.

INEC returning officer, Prof. Charles Onwuka, of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), announced the results on Saturday, January 26, at Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, Ijebu-Ode, collation centre of the constituency.

Onwuka said that the APC candidate polled a total vote of 25,959 to defeat his closest rival, Taiwo Shote of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 21911 votes.

Kogi State governorship election results: Who won?

The election result was declared in favour of PDP's Christopher Ekpenyong against APC's Akpabio, who had earlier occupied the seat but was floored in the 2019 election.

Nigeria's electoral body discloses that Ekpeyong won the seat by beating Godswill Akpabio, a current minister of Niger Delta, by 134, 717 to 83, 820 votes to clinch the seat for the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

The result indicated that Akpabio only floored Ekpeyong in his ward where he polled 762 votes against PDP's 620.

Ekpeyong won in all the other wards of the affected area of the state.

Ekpenyong called his victory over Akpabio an act of God.

An excited Ekpeyong said his victory had ended what he called the dark days of shame in the state.

“I thank God the giver of victory for seeing me through the entire political debacle since September 2018," he said.
