Magu defends raid of nightclubs by EFCC operatives

- The acting chairman of the EFCC has said that there is nothing wrong with raiding nightclubs in Nigeria

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, January 22, has defended its raid on nightclubs across Nigeria.

The commission's acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu, said there is nothing wrong with EFCC operatives moving into nightclubs and raiding them in search of internet fraudsters popularly known as Yahoo Boys.

Channels Television reports that Magu while reacting to the arrest of 89 suspected Yahoo Boys at a nightclub n Ibadan, Oyo state by EFCC officials said suspected fraudster gather in such places to spend money gotten from victims.

Magu said: “If it is nightclubs, these are the places the yahoo boys gather and spend the money. There is nothing wrong in raiding the yahoo boys at nightclubs.”

Inspecting some of the commission's new recruits in Ibadan, Magu noted that raids on nightclubs are done following credible intelligence gathering.

He said in real prospect, the commission does not raid the nightclubs but go in there to arrest the suspected fraudsters.

“We are not raiding nightclub, we are going after the yahoo boys and we always do that when we have a credible intelligence. What we will do is that we have to collaborate to rehabilitate them into society. These are small boys who are intelligent, they can be useful," Magu said.

He further said that many fraudsters who have made millions can be found and rehabilitated to become better citizens.
