Gunmen assassinate APC chieftain Oreitan in Oyo
- A senior member of the ruling APC in Oyo state has been killed
- Babatunde Oreitan was murdered in his house just after an Islamic prayer session
- The police is yet to speak on the issue but the party's deputy national youth leader confirmed the incident
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been killed by suspected assassins in Oyo, a situation that is said to be causing panic among the party faithful as well as the people of the state.
The murder of Alhaji Babatunde Oreitan, The Nation reports, happened in the afternoon of Wednesday, January 22.
The report described the victim as one of the leaders of the party in the Ona Ara council area of the state adding that the gunmen snuffed his life out after storming his house located in Ibadan, the capital of the state, just after the Dhur Islamic prayer in a mosque located within his premises.
Details of the act are still not clear at the time of this report and the report added that efforts to get the police in the state to speak on the issue were not successful.
It, however, said the incident was confirmed by Afeez Mobolaji Repete, the deputy national youth leader of the APC.
Repete, a former aide to the immediate past governor of the state, Abiola Ajimobi, on youths and students matters, called the late politician a devout Muslim.
“Alhaji Babatunde Oreitan, you were a principled politician, a devoted Muslim and a political leader. Those that killed you will never have peace. Rest in peace Baba Gbemisola, Baba Lateef,” he said.

Legit.ng reports that the murder of Oreitan happened days after a chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta state, Paul Onomuakpokpo, was assassinated.
Until his death, Onomuakpokpo was the chairman of ward 4 (Olomu Ward 1) in Ughelli South council area.
