National leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, who finally broke his silence over the lingering Amotekun saga has criticised some aspect of the security initiative by South-West governors.
Tinubu who actually tried to balance his criticism of the initiative and pronouncement of Abubakar Malami said that some aspects of initiative seem to undermine rather than enhance this function.
The APC leader also claimed that the public might have a misconception about the initiative and this could ave effect on the god intention of Amotekun.
Tinubu who also pointed out that the Buhari administration is working on community policing raised doubt on how Amotekun can complement police force.
Going further, he argued that the regional approach of Amotekun initiative may undermine its efficiency.
Meanwhile, Nigerians on scocial media criticised the former Lagos state governor over his position on the issue.
Here are curated comments from social media.
Tunji Moyo: Too much grammar.. Simply put it. Do you support Amotekun or not? Simple answer yes or no. See me see trouble. I read and read to see where I can see yes I support it, I couldn't find anything. All these our hypocrite leaders, rogue in power. Posterity will judge all of you.
Alexander Nwaolulu Tinubu: You succeeded in saying nothing. It is obvious from your thesis that, you are not comfortable with the security outfit "Amatekun". Your silence before now can better be described as "mischievous" The content of your write up speaks for itself.
Otaru Kelvin: For a reputable national leader of the ruling party, I must commend your effort and the zealous summation of the Amotekun brouhaha. However your assertion does not fully represent the people of the west which you aptly represent. Apart from the grammatical innuendos embedded in your explanation as regards the current situation, I also find some of your statements indirectly not representing the people of the South-West and the entire nation you claim leadership. A true leader must be precise and straight forward in addressing issues of great importance like this. Speaking from both side of your mouth amount to taking double standard and not befitting of a leader.
Semiu Adedotun Onashola: This response is more of hypocrisy than supporting a well thought out Amotekun initiative.
Tinubu claims to be a leader in Yoruba nation and he's crawling, stooping to want to conquer in mole and parochial manner. Are you truly with us?
We all understand that you want Amotekun to come from your table before today. Then, you have claimed it to be second face/generation of Neighbourhood Watch of your former creation. You should have done that ab initio, instead of procrastinating and politicising on people's blood.
Jennifer Aminu: All this your grammar has not answered the main question. Come out straight and let us know where you stand, your either in support or not and spare us this long epistle.
Uneke Anayo: Read what he said because in his essay he said Mallami is right for declaring Amotekun illegal and the South West governors are also right. In everything Tinubu failed to categorically tell us if Amotekun is illegal or not.
Abayomi Raphael Ogunboye: Tinubu political neutrality in Amotekun is a symbol of his political selfishness that will earn him future political failure.
People could attribute it to anything, but it will not earn him any further achievements in politics of the westerners.
