Lawan Andimi: CAN declares 3-day fasting over killing of Adamawa pastor

- The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) declares three days fasting over the killing of Reverend Lawan Andimi

- Evangelist Kwamkur Vondip, the spokesperson for the association, describes the killing of Andimi as a sad occurrence

Three-day fasting and prayers have been declared by the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) over the killing of the Adamawa state chairman of the association, Reverend Lawan Andimi.

Leadership reports that CAN in a statement on Tuesday, January 21, in Abuja, signed by its spokesperson, Evangelist Kwamkur Vondip, described the killing of Andimi as a sad occurrence.

The religious organisation stated that it made the best efforts to secure the release of the pastor but it was not possible because it didn’t have the military power to do so.

It cited another killing of a cleric, Rev Denis Bagauri, who was reportedly murdered by unknown gunmen in his residence at Mayo Belwa of Adamawa state.

CAN said it viewed the unabated kidnappings, extortions and killings of Christians and innocent Nigerians as shameful to the government that each time boasts that it has conquered insurgency.

The association body urged Christians demand that the Buhari-led administration be more proactive in matters of security.

Meanwhile, Nigeria's president, Muhammadu Buhari, on the evening of Tuesday, January 21, sent a tough message to Boko Haram terrorists attacking the country saying they will pay heavily for their crimes.

The president said the action of the sect is provocative and inhuman.

President Buhari said it was more painful that the terrorists killed Andimi while they gave the impression that he would be released from their 'den'.

Similarly, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo joined his principal, Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, January 21 on the latter's declaration that his administration would make Boko Haram pay for the killing Rev Lawal Andimi, a chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

Osinbajo said he was lost for the right words to use in describing the killing of Andimi, who was kidnapped by the terrorists in Adamawa.

Osinbajo described Andimi as a true leader and pillar of his church and community adding that he was an inspiration to him and others.
