Supreme Court: Don't despair - Ortom's rival tells supporters
- The APC in Benue has displayed enviable maturity that is worthy of emulation after the Supreme Court verdict on Tuesday, January 21
- The APC's governorship candidate, Emmanuel Jime, said that the party will not relent in looking into governmental issues
- Jime said that he will never be brought under the pressure of intimidation and tongue-lashing that will come after his defeat in the court
The ruling of the Supreme Court in Abuja that upheld the election victory of Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue seems to have been taken in good faith by his rival, Emmanuel Jime of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Apart from saying that he will not be moved by jeers and insults that attend the decision of the court, Jime said that his defeat is part of the experiences that will pave a greater future for the state as well as the party, Channels TV reports.
He said that the verdict of the apex judicial body in Nigeria brings to a decisive end the legal battles in both the election petition tribunal and appeal court that have been on since after the last gubernatorial poll in Benue.
However, the former governorship candidate said that the opposition party will continue with its effort of looking into issues of governance in the state with a view to achieving a system that will better the lives of Benue people.
Of the three PDP-owned states whose election cases have been decided upon by the Supreme Court, Benue and Plateau were the ones that emerged victorious, while Imo went to the APC after Hope Uzodinma was declared the winner of the poll.
The decision that favoured Uzodinma has continued to fuel a lot of debate, reactions and discussions in numerous political circles at various level in the country.
