Adamawa governorship: Supreme Court affirms Fintiri’s election
The Nigerian Supreme Court on Tuesday, 21 January, upheld the election of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa state.
The Tribune reports that the apex court in a unanimous decision dismissed the appeal filed by Jibrilla Bindow of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the victory of Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Meanwhile, the election victory of Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue was on Tuesday, January 21, upheld by the Supreme Court in Abuja. The verdict was delivered by a seven-man panel led by Justice Olabode Rhodes-Vivour, Vanguard reports.
The panel said that it based on it review of the appeal made by Ortom's opponent, Emmanuel Jime of the All Progressives Congress (APC), it has no basis on which to set aside the decision of the election petition tribunal and the Court of Appeal.
Following this, the apex court therefore dismissed the application filed by the APC candidate which challenged Ortom's victory. The judgment of the court, therefore, mean that Ortom will remain the governor of Benue for the four years.
In another report, the southeast zonal vice chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Austine Umahi, has declared that judges of the Supreme Court will know no peace until they reverse the decision to oust Emeka Ihedioha as the governor of Imo state.
