Adamawa CAN chairman Reverend Lawan Andimi killed by Boko Haram

- Reverend Lawan Andimi, the abducted Adamawa chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has been killed by Boko Haram insurgent

- Sources disclose that Boko Haram killed the cleric on Monday, January 20, after reported negotiations to secure his release broke down

Lawan Andimi, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), who was abducted by Boko Haram, has been killed by insurgents.

The insurgents were reported to have abducted Reverend Andimi, in January when they attacked Michika local government area of Adamawa state where he worked as a pastor.

Sources told The Cable that Boko Haram killed the cleric on Monday, January 20, after reported negotiations to release the cleric broke down.

“At some point the insurgents reached out for negotiations, and the church was still trying to see how they can get on with the terms,” he said.

The newspaper stated that CAN has conformed the killing and sent a delegation to Michika to see the family of the deceased.

Ahmad Salkida, a journalist with years of experience reporting the activities of the insurgents, also reported about the killing of the cleric.

"To break some news items can traumatize. I'm battling with one of such. Reverend Andimi, abducted by #BokoHaram was executed yesterday. Rev. Andimi was a church leader, a father to his children and the community he served. My condolences go to his family," Ahmad Salkida tweeted.

Some Nigerians who reacted to the killing of the cleric described the incident as sad

"This is another sad news, what is happening in the northeast is terrible. I am tired of commenting and lamenting. What has this poor pastor done wrong for God sake , why are these terrorist so wicked. Taking life has become a sport for them kai," one twitter user stated.

Another twitter user raised concerns over the government rehabilitating Boko Haram terrorists who commit such crimes .

"When the man was shown on video the way he spoke would make you realize he was prepared for the end. I hope government wouldn't tomorrow claim they have rehabilitated the men that killed this man," he said.

Meanwhile, Boko Haram has been described as a dying horse. This assertion was made by Tukur Buratai, chief of army staff. Recall that the terrorist organisation has stepped up attacks on military formations and the civilian population in the northeast.

The Army boss disclosed this after the European parliament claimed there has not been progress in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents.

He consequently called on respected bodies not to make pronouncement that can affect the fight against insurgency.
