Abule-Egba explosion: NNPC boss laments conspiracy in pipeline vandalisation
- NNPC boss, Mele Kyari, blamed silence and conspiracy of residents for the Abule-Egba pipeline explosion
- Kyari claimed that almost all the residents were aware of the activity of the vandals and watch it happen, adding that pipeline vandalisation cannot be done in isolation
- The NNPC GMD also expressed shock that religious worshippers in a mosque and a church near the site of the pipeline explosion watched the incident happen without notifying the security agencies
The Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari says the Abule-Egba pipeline explosion could have been averted if not for the 'conspiracy of silence' among the residents of the community.
In a thread of tweets posted on the official Twitter handle of the NNPC, Kyari lamented that many pipelines in the country have been shut down due to incessant vandalisation.
Speaking specifically about the Abule-Egba explosion which left five dead and several properties destroyed, the NNPC boss alleged that almost all the residents in the community were aware of the activities of the vandals but nobody raised alarm.
"These insertions into the p/lines can never be done in isolation. There's a huge conspiracy of silence around this tragic situation. I mean conspiracy of silence from those who have the responsibility to protect the pipeline & those who watch this happen," he said.
The NNPC boss also expressed shock that religious worshippers in a mosque and a church very close to the site of the pipeline explosion watched the ugly incident happen without notifying the security agencies.
"I was shocked that very close to the site of the unfortunate pipeline explosion in Abule Egba area, there's a big church and a big mosque there. It means that worshippers in those 2 holy places are well aware of what is happening. This is most tragic," he said.
